About Our School
Founded in 2003, by Master Craig Metzger, TaeKwonDo Center for Excellence is a life passion. Master Craig discovered TaeKwonDo in 1983 and began his path towards his (ultimately) fifth (5th) degree black belt.  Master Craig started this school at the local YMCA with weekly classes, and eventually grew the business into one that would sustain its own location, right here in East Lake.

The school was taken over, in 2021, by Master Craig's sister, who runs the school for the benefit of his children.

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art known for its powerful and dynamic kicking techniques, along with punching and blocking. It's a combination of physical training, mental discipline, and philosophical principles, and is practiced for self-defense, physical fitness, and sport.

Taekwondo originated in Korea and combines techniques from various traditional Korean martial arts, with influences from karate and Chinese martial arts. The name "taekwondo" translates to "the way of the foot and fist".

Taekwondo focuses on a wide array of kicks, including high kicks, roundhouse kicks, and axe kicks, as well as punches and blocks.

Taekwondo practitioners learn specific sequences of movements called forms (Poomsae), which are used to develop precision, balance, and coordination.

Taekwondo sparring (Kyorugi) involves controlled fighting techniques, with points awarded for correctly executed techniques.

Taekwondo includes breaking (Gyokpa) techniques, where practitioners break boards or other objects with kicks and punches. Philosophical and

In addition to physical training, taekwondo emphasizes mental discipline, respect, integrity, and perseverance.

Taekwondo became an Olympic sport in 2000.

Taekwondo offers numerous benefits for children, encompassing physical, mental, and social development. It enhances physical fitness, improves coordination, and boosts self-esteem. Additionally, it promotes discipline, focus, and respect, while also providing a structured environment for socialization and developing valuable life skills.

At TaeKwonDo Center for Excellence, we believe that core and character development is just as important as the development of the athlete.
The biggest difference at TCE is that we are female owned and have all female coaches.  We believe that this creates an environment that is positive for all students, but particularly helps young girls feel comfortable entering the sport.

Additionally, we strive to have very engaged families within our school, creating a robust community around each other and all of the students.
One of our primary goals is to ensure that we are a good fit for both you and your child.   As such, we offer the opportunity for your child to try up to three classes, before making a commitment to the school.

For students that have never taken TaeKwonDo previously, we strongly recommend starting with the 4 p.m. classes, but the 5 p.m. classes can also be attended.

To schedule yourself or your child for a complimentary class, please contact us at 404-309-0280 to let us know which day/time and share a little about your student.

We work a little differently from many martial arts schools.  We don't charge by the class and we don't require contracts or long term commitments.   We enroll students on a month to month basis, and charge a flat amount for the month.  This both allows, and encourages, students to attend as many classes/day and as many classes/week as they are able, helping to accelerate their development and growth.   It also doesn't lock you in to a longer term commitment, should your student's interests change or your family situation need to adapt.

Please contact Pam at 404-309-0280 for current monthly rates or for any other questions you might have.
Rules & Concepts
TaeKwonDo Center for Excellence is focused on helping build strong, resilent, and productive students, citizens, and leaders.  When establishing the school, Master Craig Metzger determined that it was important to let the core tenants and foundations of TaeKwonDo to the heavy lifting in helping teach this, but he also established three rules that we ask all students to learn and abide by.

Assuming these rules are adhered to, we think there is nothing our students can't accomplish.

RULES
1. When adults are speaking, stop what you are doing, look them in the eye, and listen.

2. Choose productive activities (No horseplay).
